چکیده

Al–Mg alloy powder was cryomilled to achieve a nanocrystalline (NC) structure having an average grain size of 50 nm with high thermal stability, and then consolidated by quasi-isostatic forging. The consolidation resulted in a bulk material with ultrafine grains of about 250 nm, and the material exhibited enhanced strength compared to conventionally processed Al–Mg alloy. The hardness of as-cryomilled powder, the forged ultrafine-grained (UFG) material, and the conventional coarsegrained (CG) alloy were measured by nanoindentation using various loading rates, and the results were compared with strain rate sensitivity (SRS) from uniaxial compression tests. Negative SRS was observed in the cryomilled NC powder and the forged UFG material, while the conventional alloy was relatively insensitive to strain rate. The dependence on loading rate was stronger in the NC powders than in the UFG material.

Strain Rate Sensitivity Studies of Cryomilled Al Alloy Performed by Nanoindentation

Al 5083 alloy powder was mechanically milled in liquid nitrogen to achieve a nanocrystalline (NC) structure having an average grain size of 50 nm with high thermal stability, and then consolidated by quasi-isostatic (QI) forging. The consolidation resulted in ultrafine grains (UFG) of about 250 nm, and the bulk material exhibited enhanced strength compared to conventionally processed Al 5083. T...

The effect of temperature and strain rate on elongation to failure in nanostructured Al-0.2wt% Zr alloy fabricated by ARB process

A nano/ultra-fine grain Al-0.2wt% Zr alloy was produced by accumulated roll bonding (ARB) processafter 10 cycles. The fraction of high angle grain boundaries increased from 8% to 65.4% during 10passes during ARB process. This alloy was subjected to tensile test at different temperatures (523,573and 623 K) and strain rates (0.1 and 0.01 s-1). The optimum condition of temperature and strain rate ...

Hot and Cold Tensile Behavior of Al 6061 Produced by Equal Channel Angular Pressing and Subsequent Cold Rolling

The full annealing AA6061 aluminum alloy was subjected to severe plastic deformationvia the combination of equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) and cold rolling (CR) in order torefine its microstructure and to improve its mechanical properties. According to the results of hotand cold tensile tests, the combination of ECAP and CR significantly affected the final strengthand ductility of studied...

Grain Size Effect on the Hot Deformation Processing Map of AISI 304 Austenitic Stainless Steel

In this study, the hot deformation processing map of AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel in two initial grain sizes of 15 and 40 μm was investigated. For this purpose, cylindrical samples were used in the hot compression test at the temperature range of 950-1100 °C and the strain rate of 0.005-0.5% s-1. At first, the relationship between the peak stress and Zener-Hollomon parameter w...

Effect of Pre-existing Nano Sized Precipitates on Microstructure and Mechanical Property of Al-0.2wt% Sc Highly Deformed by ARB Process

The effect of pre-existing nano sized precipitates on the mechanisms and rate of grain refinement has been investigated during the severe plastic deformation. A binary Al–0.2Sc alloy, containing coherent Al3Sc particles, of 3.62 nm in diameter has been deformed by accumulative roll bonding up to 10 cycles. The resulting deformed structures were quantitatively analyzed using electron backscatter...
